Well,
Everytime u speak to someone, they are often involved in some sort of small niche community. In this case i was talking with a mate from work and he was very much into the online flight simulator community. Its all quite amazing to me. You see he plays microsoft flight simulator online with other ppls. Like there are pilots and they radio ATC (Air Traffic Controllers) who job is to actually talk to all the pilots who are landing at their particular aiports. The thing is...its all basically realistic and to scale. So there will be a traffic constroller who runs Hong Kong Airport and anyone flying to this airport will speak to him on a mic when they are in a certain radius of the airport and he will give them details and information about when to land etc.
Its just so crazy....now the ATC arent just anyone either. They have to pass tests/exams and practise. Also its all taken very serious and anyone mucking around it banned from the community. Its all run through a organisation called 'VATSIM' - Virtual Air Traffic Flight Simulator Network. You have to sign up and register, its all free ran by volunteers and theres even a server for the oceania area. So u can do your favourit QF flight from Syd - Mel in realtime.......and realistically.
I find it all just amazing. And also that i found out the VATSIM thing from wikipedia , by searching flight simulator........now the internet is quite amazing not in just its massive amounts of information but how we have all come to adapt and utilise it ...within only a decade? Think about that...we all use it like we have our entire lives and its only been around for 10years?
I guess its only just begun.
